The Sustainable Path

Since day one, Garbo&Friends has committed itself to foster mindful consumption habits, presenting collections that are lasting in both quality and style. We are highly aware that sustainability improvement is an ongoing process that is never finished. Each and every part of the value chain is important and all steps, small to big, have an impact on people, animals and our planet.

An example of our environmental commitment is that all our textile products and producers are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified. The OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a worldwide consistent, independent testing and certification system for textiles and accessories. If you want to find out more about the certification you can read more at

We are proud to have the majority of our suppliers in Europe, to produce within Europe means not only a closeness to production and our suppliers, but also a smaller carbon imprint in regards to manufacturing and shipping.

All of our textiles are produced in Portugal, a country with a long history of textile production and craftmanship. We work with a handful of suppliers, many of whom we have worked with since our journey began. Our producers have all their accessory suppliers (ribbons, labels, embroidery) within a 200 km range of the production facility, enabling us to work together towards the ultimate goal; to grow in a sustainable way.

Sustainability FAQ

What is Garbo&Friends approach to sustainability?

Sustainability is in Garbo&Friends’ mission: to create products that stand the test of time both in terms of quality and in terms of design. It is also by making products that can be combined together no matter when you bought them, essentially changing the room by building on what’s already there and add new relevance to past favourites and increase usage per product.

Where are Garbo&Friends pieces produced?

Garbo&Friends pieces are produced in Portugal, Sweden, Germany, Poland, and China. There are around 10 suppliers in total: six in Portugal, one in China, one in Poland and two in Germany. The country and factory chosen for manufacture depend on the fabric or category but our goal is to place as many productions as possible in Europe. Portugal, for example, has a long tradition of working with woven and jersey, with a wide variety of yarn spinners and knitting mills. In China, Garbo&Friends produces the more complicated pieces such as the floats since a supplier in Europe for this type of product was not able to be found.
